Journey with a Butterfly
Journey with a Butterfly explores the undeniably forceful role that politics plays in the lives of university students and society in general. I worked with some of my close school friends, who at the time were students of the Sripali Campus – University of Colombo in making the film. Nalin Galkandaarachchi wrote the screenplay for the film and directed Journey with a Butterfly. I was the director of photography.
This short film is set in a post-civil war era, in which Sri Lankan society was immersed in a fanciful, unrealistic dream about a prosperous future. The story revolves around the lives of university students in the era, suffused in conflicting emotions and events of love, loss, happiness, pain, the struggle for survival, and the uncertainty that prevails in their lives, indefinitely.
